Our mind was not even revived from the word 'scam' of 1992, another scam in the automobile industry was committed by a very renowned business man Dilip Chabbria, the owner of DC design and car studio.
He was arrested on December 28 by the Mumbai police on charges of cheating and forgery worth nearby ₹100 crore. He was in custody till January 2 according to the Times of India.
The Scam - A loan was taken from NBFC's (Non banking financial companies) such as BMW financial services on 90 DC Avanti cars fraudulently. The loan was estimated at ₹42 lakh per car, but many of them were declared as NPA (Non performing assests) by the NBFC's in a report.
Additional to that, Dilip Chabbria had manufactured 127 Avanti cars and registered them with different regional RTO's and had sold them in India and Overseas.
In a recent report in The Indiam Express, police had siezed a DC Avanti car with a fake registration number outside Taj Mahal Hotel. The vehicle was registered in Tamil Nadu, whereas the number and parts were registered with the Haryana RTO with different number. The owner had registered the case, the report said.
